So... it was a dark and stormy night!!!
On a extremely windy night at Chalkwell park the u15A team played a 1st round Peters Cup match against Westcliff.
Captain Shane Bottrill managed to lose the toss and we were inserted. After a brisk start from Tom Robinson (19) 3 wickets fell quickly. There then followed an excellent partnership between
Shane Bottrill (35) and Euan Sykes (38 n.o) together with a cameo roll from Lucas Marriott (4 n.o.) which steered the team to a competitive 111/4 off their 20 overs.
Westcliff went into bat but the opening bowling combination of Cameron Butcher and Shane Bottrill had them well behind the asking rate.
However, Westcliff had planned for this and had held back their bigger hitters. Excellent support bowling from Lucas Wiggins, ( 2 wickets), Finlay Cunningham, Shameer Ejaz & Sam Stains (all 1 a piece) saw us steadily taking wickets and had us still ahead going into the final 2 overs. The team fielded well with good catches from Shameer, Euan and Shane.
Conditions were now very dark and freezing cold...on came Ben Saggers and Shameer Ejaz to bowl the last 2 overs. They both held their nerve very well and the victory was ours. A special mention for Buster Townley who kept very well taking a sharp catch behind the stumps and only conceded 1 bye.
