Under 11 B win league

16:19 on 12 July, 2010 by Chris
Orsett 295 - 4 (net 275)
SOSEMT 317 - 2 (net 307)
SOSEMT win by 32 runs

Future is bright, future is SOSEMTCC !

When the quiz question in years to come is "What SOSEMTCC team were the first to win a league or cup title", the answer will be the under 11 "B" team.

After last weeks dramatic collapse against Leigh , morale was hit hard and fears of the title being decided by run rate was in the air. However our nearest challengers Rayleigh also lost to Wickford so we were once again in pole position with one match to go against Orsett.
Some of parents wanted to know what hotel to stay at….I mean Orsett is a long way away. However route maps were consulted and if you left early on friday I am assured them all they would make it for sunday 9.30 start…and we did.

A couple of changes from the usual side saw the much improved big hitter Joe H in Paris with mum and dad, young Cameron B at home to nurse his poorly brother and Sam S also away, however we had a decent side and I was confident, but nervous, albeit still in shock after somehow losing a match we had won on the previous day (let alone the previous Sunday !).

Callum lost the toss and we were inserted. Coach advised the boys a bit more caution with the bat this week, last week we were out 8 times and lessons needed to be learnt.

Sam F who has been very consistent this year heeded my caution but missed a good one and scored 2 out once. Adam G, highly talented but just a tadge frustrating at times !! batted maturely (hoorah) and did what he can do and scored 12 without getting out…decent start. Younger Brother Ben G only just appearing over the stumps (nothing wrong with that !) showed great technique and even more guts scoring 2 and not being out again and with Callum scoring 10 and not being out a solid start was made. Harry squared came in, that is Harry W and Harry S, both are strong hitters and this was the crucial part of our innings  we could get away from the opposition or we could hand them the advantage…again coach has a strong word of caution…Harry W struck the ball very well scoring 16 and Harry S made 9 both not out and we were in strong position.

Sachin and Keenan strode to the wicket, but shock Sachin misses a straight one and is out first ball, both boys recovered from the setback and Sachin made 10 and Keenan 3. The final pair, 2 big strong lads, Reece and Andrew….both hit the ball very well, Reece making 16 and Andrew playing shots all around the wicket 14. Final score 317 - 2 (net 307)…surely enough ?

Now boys lets bowl straight and hold our nerve……did we bowl well…hmmm, no to be honest it was not a good bowling or fielding performance (with a few exceptions).

Adam G 3 over's  1 wicket for 3 runs
Callum 2 over's 1 for 5
Andrew 2 over's 0 for 5 were the pick and I must also mention young Ben who put his body on the line on 2 or 3 occasions and saved boundaries ….some of the bigger lads take note !

We won by 32 runs in the end although the match was quite close for most of the match.

Congratulation boys you have done yourselves and club proud.

Under 11 B champions !
